The Phenomenology of Spirit By Hegel in a Lecture at the BA

Alexandria— The BA Manuscript Center is organizing on Tuesday, 4 December 2007, a lecture on the German Philosopher Hegel's work Phänomenologie des Geistes (The Phenomenology of Spirit). The lecture entitled "The Phenomenology of Spirit…New Reading" is part of the Manuscript Center's cultural season activities, on the occasion of the passage of 200 years since the issuance of the book in 1807. Dr. Hassan Hanafy, renowned Egyptian Thinker, will give the lecture, moderated by Dr. Youssef Zeidan, Director of the Manuscript Center and Museum.

Prof. Dr. Hassan Hanafi, born in 1935 in Egypt, is a professor of philosophy and a leading authority on modern Islam. Hanafi studied at the Sorbonne in Paris. Since 1967, he has been a professor of philosophy in Cairo, as well as a visiting professor at universities in France, the United States of America, Belgium, Kuwait and Germany.

Hanafi has acted as an advisor to the InterAction Council, a coalition of 26 former presidents and prime ministers. He is also a member of the Association for Intercultural Philosophy, which encourages a dialogue among philosophers from all over the world.

The lecture will start at 14:00 hrs, BA Auditorium.
