The BA Wins the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science Award for the Best Translated Book in the Arab Region for the Year 2006

Alexandria— Dr. Khaled Azab, Director of Media Department, and Acting Director of Calligraphy Center will receive on Monday, 2 December 2007, the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science Translation Award for The History of Writings from Ideogram to Multimedia book by Anne-Marie Christin, the best translated book in the Arab region for the year 2006.

The translated book introduces the history of writings all over the world and is translated from the original French version entitled Histoire de l'Écriture: de l'Idéogramme au Multimédia , published by Flammarion, Paris, 2001. The work as a whole highlights the process of creation and evolution of the various languages and writing-systems all over the world, and introduces latest research papers on the history of writings.

Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, wrote the book's forward and Dr. Khaled Azab edited the translated Arabic version. The highly specialized and easy to understand book is divided into three chapters, namely: Origins and reinventions; Alphabets and derived script; and The image in western writing. Each chapter deals with a peculiar region of the world and sheds lights on the various elements which played a role in the creation of its culture and writing.
