Alexandria— At the outset of its sixth year, the BA carries on its mission in disseminating knowledge without boundaries. The BA Calligraphy Center is preparing a project entitled "Journey of Writing in Egypt". The project includes an exhibition entitled " Journey of Writing in Egypt through Ages" featuring different writings in Egypt, a catalogue of scripts and writings, and a documentary on the journey of writing through ages.

Dr. Khaled Azab, Director of the Calligraphy Center, stated that the exhibition displays all the writings in Egypt from prehistoric ages to date, such as graffiti, early writings, and ancient Egyptian writings including Hieroglyphic, Demotic, Heiratic, Coptic, as well as writings used by minorities who lived on the Egyptian land, such as: Syriac, Aramaic, Hebrew until the emergence of the Arabic writings. The project is only an introduction to a larger project to analyze all the writings of the Mediterranean region, in cooperation with different cultural institutions in the region.

On the other hand, the Calligraphy Center organizes a series of lectures and seminars to raise the awareness of the public on the origin, kinds, and aesthetics of Arabic calligraphy. The Center also is publishing books and translations on the ancient Egyptian language including The Ancient Egyptian Language by Dr. Abdel Halim Nurreldine, the Arabic version of How to Read Egyptian Hieroglyphs? by Mark Collier, and a book teaching Hieroglyphs to children entitled Enjoy the Sacred Writing.
