The BA Hosts the 31st Conference of the Comparative Education French Society (Association Francophone d'Education Comparée, AFEC)

The Comparative Education French Society (Association Francophone d'Education Comparée, AFEC) is organizing its 31st international conference on comparative education entitled "Comparative Approaches to Educational Traditions and Modernities: What Meeting Points Exist between the East and the West, the North and the South? from 28 to 31 October 2007. The conference is held in collaboration with the Mission Laïque Française and the BA.
The conference will stir diverse discussions on the history and future of interaction between the East and the West, the South and the North, in the field of education. It will also tackle its influences, cultural exchanges and subsequent conflicts. The conference is mainly concerned with forms and mutual effects of interaction between East and West, which are far from being recent. Many historical studies, emphasize the overlap of the histories of civilizations and cultures.
The conference will focus on three main themes:
The first theme is: Comparatism and Cultural Interaction: New Dimensions for Knowledge and Methodology in Comparative Education; the second theme is: Meeting Points of Educational Systems: Contributions, Conflicts and Mutual Enrichment; the third theme is: Problems of Cultural Interaction: from Global to Local, New Challenges for Education. The Conference will also include two roundtables—roundtable 1: "Meetings”, interactions, interrelationships: which comparative approaches in social sciences today? roundtable 2: "The East" and "The West", "north" and "south", are such categories still scientifically relevant to comparatists?"
