Former Iranian President Mohamed Khatami Speaks on "Dialogue of Civilizations" at the BA

Alexandria—the Former Iranian President Mohamed Khatami will give a lecture at the BA entitled "Dialogue of Civilizations" on Tuesday, 27 March 2007, as part of the BA's endeavors to support the theory of dialogue of civilizations.
Khatami, who studied western philosophy, is a great political thinker of our age. Khatami rejects the theory of "clash of civilizations" popularized by Samuel Phillips Huntington in early nineties, who believes that all civilizations are in a continuous conflict over power. Khatami introduced the theory of Dialogue Among Civilizations as a response to Huntington's theory of Clash of Civilizations. After introducing the concept of his theory in several international societies (most importantly the U.N.) the theory gained a lot of international support. Consequently the United Nations proclaimed the year 2001 as the United Nations' Year of Dialogue Among Civilizations, as per Khatami's suggestion.
It is worth mentioning that Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, is a member, along with Former President Khatami, in the High Level Group of UN Alliance of Civilizations.
The lecture will be held at 19:00 hrs. at the BA Conference Center.
