Leaders of a Global Initiative on Biotechnology and Human Security

Alexandria— Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the BA was called upon by the United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, to participated in a meeting held at the UN Headquarters on Wednesday, 13 December 2006 for a discussion in order to extend the benefits of the revolution in biotechnology and manage its potential risks.
The United Nations Secretary-General called together a small group of leaders to form the core of the initiative. Dr. Ismail Serageldin has been selected to serve on this elite panel comprising a group of distinguished scholars and Nobel Laureates such as David Baltimore, Nobel prize in physiology or medicine, Kiram Mazumdar, chairperson and managing director of Biocon, India’s largest biopharmaceutical company , Bill Gates, former CEO of Microsoft Corporation, and Shirley Tilghman, President of Princeton University.
