The film depicts the class struggle in Egypt before the 23 July 1952 Revolution through a love story between Ahmed, the son of a farmer and Amal, the Pasha’s daughter. It was directed by the Alexandrian director Youssef Chahine (25 January 1926 – 27 July 2008), and starred the internationally acclaimed Alexandrian actor Omar Sharif (10 April 1932 – 10 July 2015).
