Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, stressed that the rapid modernity that the world is experiencing today has produced a form of concern for the future of identity and heritage, and said that the scientific and technological changes that the world is witnessing have been growing at a pace that exceeds the human capacity.
This came during his participation in the seminar "The Future of Cultural Heritage in Changing Times", which was organized by the Sharjah Heritage Institute at Bayt Al-Suhaymi, and attended by Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Musallam, Director of the Sharjah Heritage Institute; Dr. Ahmed Bahey Al-Din Al-Hassasi, Chairman of the Book Authority; and Dr. Samar Sarhan, Dean of the Higher Institute of Folk Arts. It was moderated by Dr. Mani Bounaama.
Dr. Zayed said that heritage may be in a material form such as old buildings and houses, and may be in the form of monuments such as ancient temples. He also referred to intangible heritage, which is the most important because it is linked to the culture, personality, and mood of peoples such as customs and traditions.
