A Cooperation Agreement between the BA and the UNHCR

Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and Dr. Hanan Hamdan, UNHCR Representative in Egypt, signed this morning a renewed memorandum of understanding between both entities, entitled "A Shared Legacy: A Decade of Cooperation for Humanity."
Dr. Zayed said that the issue of the refugees is one of the major issues that are on the rise in the Middle East, because despite all the voices of peace and love in the world, wars and conflicts are escalating, especially in the Arab region – a situation that exacerbates the refugee problem.
Following the signing of the renewed MoU, a documentary film was screened highlighting the events and activities that have been organized by the Library in cooperation with the UNHCR over the past 10 years, including training workshops, exhibitions, concerts, and artistic performances that reflect the refugees’ folklore.
It is worth mentioning that this agreement was launched in 2014 and aims to create an enabling environment for refugees, asylum seekers, and Egyptian citizens and encourage them to take part in cultural and knowledge exchange and joint activities. The Bibliotheca Alexandrina has succeeded since the beginning of this collaboration in integrating thousands of refugees of different nationalities and age groups into its programs.
