“Running for Heritage” Marathon at the BA

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina will host this year’s Alexandria Marathon under the title "Running for Heritage", on Friday, 27 October 2023, from 5:00 am to 11:00 am. The event is organized by Alex Runners in collaboration with the BA Women Studies and Social Transformation Program and the Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center (Alex Med).

The Alexandria Marathon is one of the most important international marathons held in Egypt, as it witnesses the participation of competitors from various countries around the world. It is carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Tourism Promotion Authority, and aims to shed light on the city of Alexandria and its cultural heritage, while supporting community groups such as women, youth and people with special needs.

This year's marathon offers a variety of distances to suit different categories. Its tracks are as follows:

  • 42 kilometers: from the Bibliotheca Alexandrina – passing through the Citadel of Qaitbay – followed by San Stefano – and back to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (two rounds).
  • 21 kilometers: from the Bibliotheca Alexandrina - passing through the Citadel of Qaitbay - followed by San Stefano - and back to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
  • 10 kilometers: from the Bibliotheca Alexandrina - passing through the Citadel of Qaitbay – followed by Camp Caesar Park - and back to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
  • 5 kilometers: from the Bibliotheca Alexandrina – passing through Al-Qaed Ibrahim Mosque – followed by Camp Caesar Park – and back to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
  • 2 km - Youth and Family marathon: from the Bibliotheca Alexandrina - passing through Al-Qaed Ibrahim Mosque - and back to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
  • Children's marathon (4-10 years old) 500 meters: Bibliotheca Alexandrina Square.
