Inauguration of the exhibition entitled "Selim Hassan: Pioneer of Egyptology"

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in cooperation with the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, has inaugurated yesterday on the 18th of September 2023, an exhibition entitled "Selim Hassan: Pioneer of Egyptology", in the Museum's Lecture Hall. The exhibition runs until 30 September 2023.
This exhibition commemorates the sixty-second anniversary of the death of Dr. Selim Hassan, one of the most prominent figures of Egyptology and the founder of the campaign to save Egyptian antiquities in Nubia, who presented numerous pioneering studies in this field, and was nicknamed the "Dean of Egyptian Archaeologists". The event was inaugurated with a symposium under the same title.
The exhibition highlights Selim Hassan's contributions to the development of Egyptology and his active role with regard to the excavations that were carried out under the auspices of the National Foundation of the Egyptian University (now Cairo University). It also features a collection of manuscripts and photographs showcasing his excavations in Giza and Saqqara.
