BA Director Discusses Building Sustainable Education Systems Responsive to Climate and Environmental Issues at COP27

Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, said that the role of affective environment is very important in terms of shaping the awareness of individuals towards environmental and climatic changes, pointing out that cinema plays a crucial role in this regard, which must be developed to keep pace with the changes that have occurred in environmental issues over the past years.
This came during Dr. Zayed’s participation in the panel discussion organized by the Egyptian Center for Strategic Studies, on Tuesday evening, on the sidelines of the events of the second day of the Climate Change Conference (COP27), taking place in the Green Zone and held under the title "Academics and Climate Change: How to Build Bridges between Science and Policy-Making?". The session was moderated by Dr. Abdel Moneim Said, President of the Center's Advisory Board.
The BA Director stressed the importance of explaining all aspects of climate change, whether political or scientific, to children and students, so that they can fully realize the importance of safeguarding the environment and eliminating climate risks.
The session aimed to shed light on the effects of climate change in disrupting the educational process of student learning and achievement in some countries. It also discussed the role of including climate issues and environmental sustainability in the educational process, in order to develop the awareness of future generations about climate change and the means of addressing its consequences.
Moreover, the session highlighted the challenges facing developing countries in improving their educational systems to help them adapt to climate change. It also examined the Egyptian experience in focusing on environmental and climate issues within the new education system, while identifying the most successful global models in this respect, and the possibility of benefiting from them.
