The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing two lectures on adolescence and people with special needs on Thursday, 11 November 2021, at 11:00 am, in the BACC Lecture Hall.

The first lecture is titled “Adolescence: The Bottleneck”, delivered by Professor Menan Abdel Maksoud, Secretary-General of the Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Secretariat, while the second lecture is titled “Adolescence and People with Special Needs”, given by Dr. Eman Gaber, Head of the Children and Young People Department, at the Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Secretariat.

The lectures will discuss the psychological burden experienced by the Egyptian family in general, and by adolescents with special needs in particular, during the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the negative impact of such burden on their psychological and social development. They will also highlight the increased rates of depression and anxiety, especially social phobia, which led to young people resorting to the virtual world in many cases, resulting in longer periods of using the Internet and electronic games.
