The BA and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology Announce their Joint Postdoctoral Research Grant Program

Stemming from their belief in the importance of supporting young researchers, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology announce a call for application for the second round of their joint postdoctoral research grants program, which targets young Egyptian and African researchers under the age of 45, with PhD degrees in one of the following fields: food and agriculture sciences, medical science, environmental science, engineering and technological science. Participants should present a research proposal in one of the aforementioned fields.
Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the BA, welcomed this joint initiative, stressing the fact that this partnership highlights Egypt’s pioneering role in strengthening the foundations of a regional cooperation with regard to scientific research. He added that the BA had always encouraged innovation through several research grants, together with a number of programs that aimed to support Arab and African researchers in various academic domains. Furthermore, Dr. Mahmoud Sakr, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, emphasized the role of the Academy in creating an environment conducive to academic research and in disseminating the culture of science, technology, and innovation, especially in Africa.
It is worth mentioning that 633 researchers applied in the first round of the postdoctoral research grants program. They were nationals of 17 countries including Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iraq, Kenya, Libya, Madagascar, Morocco, Nigeria, Niger, Rwanda, South Africa, Sudan, Tunisia, Tanzania, and Uganda. The assessment process of the presented proposals comprised more than 70 experts from 13 countries.
