President of the European Council at the BA

H.E. Mr. Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council, visited the Library of Alexandria on Tuesday, 15 January 2013, being a cultural international landmark, within his official visit to Egypt. He was received by Dr. Yehia Halim Zaki, Cultural Advisor to the BA Director, and Dr. Sherif Riad, Deputy Head of the BA External Relations Sector. James Moran, EU Ambassador to Egypt, and a high profile European delegation also joined the visit.
 

Rompuy toured the Library and its different sections, and recognized the BA role in developing the Egyptian society and fostering international cooperation, especially in the educational and cultural fields.
 

On the fringe lines of the visit, Rompuy meet a group of Egyptian youth from different backgrounds in a dialogue entitled “Youth and New Egypt”, tackling the role of youth post the 25th of January Revolution, the challenges facing them and the role of the EU in supporting their endeavors, especially through dialogue and exchange programs.
