Alexandria—Dr. Ahmed Fathi Sorour, Speaker of the Egyptian People’s Assembly and President of the Egyptian Society of Political Economy, Statistics and Legislation (ESPESL), and Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the ESPESL and the BA.

The Memorandum aims at implementing joint cultural and educational projects through studies and field researches, publications and translations, in addition to coordinating efforts and cooperation with different entities to fund these projects. The BA and the ESPESL will also work together on organizing conferences, seminars and roundtable discussions that aim at spreading awareness of political economy, law, and legislation studies, and highlight their importance in documenting Egyptian history.

According to this Memorandum, the BA will digitalize the publications of ESPESL, as well as some of its important and rare collection. This will be implemented through the “Memory of Modern Egypt” Project that documents Egyptian societies and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

The Memorandum coincides with the centennial celebration of ESPESL.
