Celebrating Jerusalem the Capital of Arab Culture at the BA

Alexandria—A celebration was held at the BA on Thursday, 3 September 2009 on the occasion of choosing Jerusalem as a Capital of Arab Culture 2009. It was attended by General Adel Labib, Governor of Alexandria; Ambassador Nabil Amr, Ambassador of Palestine in Cairo; Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, in addition to several Consuls of Arab countries in Alexandria, and Palestinians living in Egypt.

Ambassador Nabil Amr gave a speech in which he expressed his delight on hosting such an event at the BA. He highlighted the significant role played by Egypt in the peace process and the inter-Palestinian dialogue between Fatah and Hamas.

The Governor of Alexandria expressed his delight on choosing Jerusalem as a Capital of Arab Culture 2009. He pinpointed that the utmost aim of the celebration is to have Jerusalem in the minds and hearts of all Arabs.

Palestinian Folklore Troupe, established 30 years ago, performed several folklore dance inspired from the Palestinian “Dabka” and reflecting the Palestinian contemporary life.
