The Importance of Intercultural Dialogue, lecture at the BA

Posted on

Alexandria — The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in collaboration with Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures, is organizing a lecture entitled “The Importance of Intercultural Dialogue” by H. E. Mrs. Benita Ferrero-Waldner, European Union Commissioner for External Relations and Neighbourhood Policy, and comments by H.E. Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, on 6 May 2006.

Through her lecture, Mrs. Waldner will highlight the need to enhance cooperation and deepen understanding between people, cultures and faiths. She will point to the current situations as the longstanding failure to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict; the reactions to the cartoon depicting Prophet Mohamed; as well as the ability to integrate the minority populations in Europe.

She will also propose the only solution for these problems, which is the dialogue and cultural exchange at every level: civil society, media, and public institutions, to reach mutual respect and understanding.

The lecture takes place at 10:00 am, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Centre.
