Posted on

Alexandria 8 January 2006— With the generous support of the US/Egypt Joint Fund, the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and the National Science Foundation, the US Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina are working together to organize an invitational workshop on “A Digital Library of the Middle East.” The workshop will be held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Alexandria, Egypt, January 15-17, 2006.

It would also be worth mentioning that Dr. John Gage (Chief Researcher and the Vice President of the Science Office Sun Microsystems) will be giving an Opening Plenary Presentation on 16 January 2005.

The workshop should help lay the foundation for development of a core infrastructure and creation of initial content for a Digital Library of the Middle East, and for implementation of dedicated linkages to global science and technology networks.
