Workshop: “Geographic Information Systems Applications in Heritage Preservation and Documentation”

The BA Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center (Alex Med), in collaboration with the West Delta Training Center affiliated with the Department of Archaeological Training Centers, organized a workshop entitled “Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Applications in Heritage Preservation and Documentation” for employees of the Ministry of Antiquities, from 25 to 29 May 2025, at the West Delta Training Center in Kom El-Nadura.

The workshop was presented by Eng. Nader Mohamed, a researcher at the BA Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center. It addressed the various applications of geographic information systems and their future prospects, in addition to their multiple dimensions and their relationship with satellites and remote sensing sciences, while clarifying the extent of the use of these applications within the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The workshop also included a practical application on documenting heritage buildings in Alexandria using a geographic information system program, and the extent of its usefulness within Egypt, especially at the current stage, by clarifying its role in Egyptian national projects and the link between these applications and the Egyptian space program.
