The BA Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center (Alex Med) organized a ceremony to celebrate the launching of the book The History of the British in Alexandria by Dr. Carole Escoffey. The event was held on Tuesday, 5 March 2024, and attended by Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the BA; Mr. Mathew Lever, First Secretary of the British Embassy in Cairo; and Mr. Christopher Larter, Honorary British Consul to Alexandria. It was presented by Dr. Marwa Elwakil, Head of the BA Academic Research Sector.

The book recounts the history of the British presence in Alexandria, starting with the first travelers and merchants who came to the city, followed by the gradual establishment of a society under Muhammad Ali and his descendants. The book focuses on the key individuals, events, and institutions in British society in the latter part of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century.
