Condolences over Death of Marianna Vardinoyannis

Posted on

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mrs. Marianna Vardinoyannis, a beloved founding member of our Board of Trustees, from 2001-2008, and again since 2022. Her organization was also one of the founders of the BA’s Alexandria Center for Hellenistic Studies.

Mrs. Vardinoyannis was a Greek philanthropist and a Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO since 1999. She was a tireless advocate for human rights and the protection of children's health and welfare. She dedicated her life to saving young lives from cancer and protecting their innocence from various threats.

She founded and was president of the Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation and the ELPIDA Friends' Association of Children with Cancer. She also served on the boards of many other organizations, including the MENTOR Foundation against drugs.

Mrs. Vardinoyannis was a true inspiration to us all. She was a force of nature who never gave up on her dreams, and a strong supporter of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina; forever believing in its mission and possibilities. She was a champion for the most vulnerable members of our society, and she made a lasting impact on the lives of countless children.

Our thoughts are with her family and friends during this difficult time.
