The BA Completes the Restoration of Dar al-Kutub Manuscripts in Tanta

Alexandria— The BA will hold a ceremony on Tuesday, 29 January 2008, to celebrate the completion of the restoration of Dar al-Kutub Manuscripts in Tanta and returning them to the Public Authority for Cultural Palaces. Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, Dr. Youssef Ziedan, Director of the Manuscript Centre and Museum, and Dr. Ahmed Nawwar, Head of the General Organization for Cultural Palaces, will attend the celebration.

Dr. Ziedan stated that the BA Restoration Section (Laboratory), equipped with state of the art tools, and with the help of 30 highly qualified experts completed last week the restoration of Dar al-Kutub Manuscripts in Tanta, amounting to 290 manuscripts.

He added that, during the last eight months, 22 manuscripts were manually restored, while the rest of the collection was partially restored, vaporized and preserved, within the framework of the cooperation agreement between the BA and the Ministry of Culture.
