Alexandria—
The Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center (Alex-Med) is organizing a joint architectural design workshop entitled "Cosmopolitan Alexandria: What Future for its Heritage?" during the period from 11-25 November 2007, in cooperation with the University of Polytechnic in Milan.
Dr. Mohamed Awad, Director, Alex-Med, stated that this architectural and urban design workshop, aimed at “Designing with the Aid of History”, promotes cultural exchange based on a project-oriented viewpoint (exchange of knowledge and experiences between universities, among young researchers and university professors, undergraduates and post-graduate students from different backgrounds). A project will be submitted by students at the end of this workshop.
It is worth mentioning that Alex-Med is affiliated with the BA and aims at reviving the historic role of Alexandria, and at promoting Alexandrian culture and Alexandrism, by relocating the city’s spirit of diversity, tolerance and cooperation once more in the Mediterranean. Its mission is therefore to document and disseminate the Alexandrian and Mediterranean tangible and intangible culture, while encouraging dialogue and mutual understanding. Furthermore, the Center focuses on economic development, cooperation and sustainability.
The workshop sessions will start at 9:00 hrs. at the BA Fourth Floor Floating Room.
