"A New Dawn: Arabs looking East"
Japan Arab Conference, 20-21 November 2007

Alexandria— The BA is organizing a large conference entitled A New Dawn: Arabs looking East, 20-21 November 2007, in collaboration with the League of Arab States. The two-day Conference aims to reinforce Japan–Arab relations on all fronts and to explore future possibilities for further cooperation.

The Arab world has had good relations with Japan for many years. Yet, it is surprising that some people are not aware of the mutuality of interests, the promising scientific and technological collaborations, the possibilities for inter-cultural dialogue and cooperation, and the vast business opportunities that exist in closer relations with Japan, the world’s second largest economy, and a technological leader in the world.

Over the past few years, a subtle dialogue has been engaged by prominent persons from Japan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia to explore ways in which new avenues of collaboration could be developed and mutual understanding could be enhanced.

The Conference will bring together leaders in politics, business, science, technology, culture and the civil society from both Japan and the Arab world for an intensive two-day event. It will comprise four main themes: political and diplomatic; economic and financial; cultural and social; science and technology. Each theme will have a special group of designated participants, and will have parallel sessions devoted to it, in addition to being addressed in plenary.
