The Golden Jubilee of the Nationalization of the Suez Canal

Alexandria — the BA is organizing on 24-25 July 2006 the Egyptian celebration marking the golden jubilee of the Nationalization of the Suez Canal. The Nationalization of the Suez Canal was one of the most important decrees by Gamal Abdel Nasser on 26 July 1956 and resulted into the Tripartite Invasion of Egypt. The celebration will be held in Alexandria, where Abdel Nasser announced the Suez Canal Nationalization decree 50 years ago.

The celebration will include the opening of an exhibition featuring all the documents of the Suez Canal kept at the BA. On the fringe lines of the celebration, cultural, scientific, and literary seminars will be held namely Memories of the Suez Canal, History of the Canal and the Importance of the Nationalization Decision, and The Suez Canal in Favor of Trading and International Economics. Lieutenant General Ahmed Fadl, President of Suez Canal Authority, General Abdel Salam Mahgoub, Governor of Alexandria, Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, Mr. Mashour Ahmed Mashour, Former President of Suez Canal Authority, Eng. Ezzat Adel, Former President of Suez Canal Authority, Sherene Hassan Mahmoud, Head of Maritime Transportation Sector, Dr. Gamal Mokhtar, President of Arab Academy for Science and Technology, in addition to representatives of Suez Canal Friends Association will participate in the celebration.

The exhibition will be open at 9:00 hrs at the BA Conference Center.
