The BA Celebrates the 150th Anniversary of the Inauguration of the Suez Canal

Dr. Mostafa el Feki, Director of BA, will open the cultural evening organized by the BA on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the inauguration of the Suez Canal. The event will take place on 26 June 2018 at 7:00 pm and will be attended by Vice Admiral Mohab Mamish, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, as the guest of honor and keynote speaker; in addition to Dr. Fathy Saleh, Honorary President of the BA CULNAT Center; Dr. Ali el-Hefnawy, Advisor to the Suez Canal Museum Project and Founder of the French University in Egypt; Ramier de Fortanier, Founder of the Association of the Memory of Ferdinand de Lesseps and the Suez Canal; and Ambassador Fatma Etman, former First Undersecretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A number of public figures, intellectuals, and media personalities will participate in the event as well.

The BA is keen to take part in organizing this cultural evening due to the importance of the Suez Canal as a historical, cultural, and developmental project. The Suez Canal is the most important water crossing in regards to international trade, in addition to what the attempts to connect the Red Sea and the Mediterranean through the ages represents, starting from ancient Egypt and its continuation throughout history, until the Suez Canal was dug by Egyptian workers and inaugurated in a historic celebration, and finally, the new Canal was inaugurated on 5 August 2014.
