BA Hosts the 12th International Conference on Dryland Development

The BA, in collaboration with the International Drylands Development Commission (IDDC), is hosting the 12th International Conference on Dryland Development from 21 to 24 August, titled “Sustainable Development of Drylands in the Post 2015 World”.

Over 250 national and international scientists and experts, from all over the world, will take part in the conference. An esteemed group of scientists and researchers from universities and academic research institutions in Egypt will also participate in the conference. Dr. Adel el-Beltagy, the president of IDDC; Dr. Ismail Serageldin, the Director of the BA; Dr. Pasquale Steduto, a Deputy Regional Representative at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO); Dr. Abdelhaq Hanafi, a representative of International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD); and others will be inaugurating the conference.

The researches will present scientific researches that serve the cause of developing drylands and aims to raising of the standards of living of more than 2.5 billion resident of drylands worldwide. The conference will discuss several topics concerning the sustainable development of drylands, including applying new technology to raise crop efficiency in coping with dehydration and high temperatures, as well as the problems of the agricultural management of drylands.

The conference will also tackle issues concerning land degradation and desertification, sustaining biodiversity at drylands, developing communities at drylands, reducing poverty levels, providing job opportunities, and new and renewable energy.
